When I was a kid, I was one of the first to get a personal computer, you know, the ones with the huge floppy disks? My father was into gadgets and technology, he had a cellphone before the frenzy, and we were the first in our neighborhood to have access to the internet. You’d think that my father’s love for gadgets would turn me into a digital devotee. Sure, I like my shiny new Surface Pro and my many productivity apps, but I have a love for analog that no app could take away. Good planning ensures that all your projects are accounted for and that you get the ball rolling on your most important priorities. Let’s take a look at each step. 1. Capture The capture step is probably the most important part of my planning process, and a founding principle of the Getting Things Done methodology. My secret weapon to productivity : the Bullet Journal

A few years ago, I came across an article on Lifehacker about a new productivity tool using only a pen and a notebook. The creator of the new method, a designer called Ryder Caroll, created a beautiful video to explain his method, along with a companion website. He called his tool the Bullet Journal. At first, I really liked the idea of writing bullets next to my tasks in my notebook of choice and to check them off as I went. It took me a whole year before I decided to really implement his method and I am now a fervent advocate of the Bullet Journal. A brief overview of the Bullet Journal method The Bullet Journal is essentially composed of a notebook that will hold your tasks, appointments, ideas and projects, organized into different “collections”. Quarter planning – 5 steps to achieve more goals

Back in 2015, I had the habit of setting goals in January, resolutions of sorts. That year, I set more than 40 goals and was very committed, in the first two months… When my drive gradually dissolved, I started to cross off items from my list. I started making excuses. At the end of the year, I had accomplished 15 of those 40+ goals. Not a bad result, but not even close. I realized that I had two problems in my planning method. First, I set too many goals to be able to work on all of them. Second, most of the goals I set in January were no longer relevant in April. This is when I learned about quarter planning. I am a big proponent of David Allen’s Getting Things Done methodology. I have used his method for 2 years now and I must say that I now know what he meant by “mind like water”. When I first got interested in David Allen’s Getting Things Done (GTD) methodology, my mind was scattered and I found that I was always forgetting to do certain tasks. I felt that my mind was full of stuff I was supposed to do, but I did not know how to organize my thoughts and feel at peace. GTD offered me a framework to capture my thoughts and process them efficiently, and experience peace of mind. The most important part of GTD for me is the Weekly Review.
