When I first read David Allen’s productivity masterpiece, Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity, I’ve been a bit overwhelmed by the process he laid out. I did not know how to get started and I wasn’t so sure I wanted to implement every part of his methodology. It seemed too much. The good news is, if you’re feeling overwhelmed as I was, you don’t need to do it all. You can pick and choose a few components of GTD and just get started with that. Over time, when it feels natural, you can start adding more components. In today’s article, I will share a few pointers on the most valuable parts of Getting Things Done that you should consider trying today. Quarter planning – 5 steps to achieve more goals

Back in 2015, I had the habit of setting goals in January, resolutions of sorts. That year, I set more than 40 goals and was very committed, in the first two months… When my drive gradually dissolved, I started to cross off items from my list. I started making excuses. At the end of the year, I had accomplished 15 of those 40+ goals. Not a bad result, but not even close. I realized that I had two problems in my planning method. First, I set too many goals to be able to work on all of them. Second, most of the goals I set in January were no longer relevant in April. This is when I learned about quarter planning. Living Forward, a summary of life planning

Last year, I felt unsettled. One day, I came back from work with this feeling in my chest that my days were useless. I had the feeling that I was living my life without direction, just going through the motions of my everyday life, without a clear purpose. I would get up, rush through my morning routine, go to work, come back and read Facebook, then go to sleep. I was not achieving anything major during the day. I was drifting. At the same time, Michael Hyatt and Daniel Harkavy released a book called Living Forward – A proven plan to stop drifting and get the life you want. Needless to say, the book caught my attention. I am a huge fan of Michael Hyatt and I was convinced that his book would be very powerful and inspiring. I was not mistaken. I am a big proponent of David Allen’s Getting Things Done methodology. I have used his method for 2 years now and I must say that I now know what he meant by “mind like water”. When I first got interested in David Allen’s Getting Things Done (GTD) methodology, my mind was scattered and I found that I was always forgetting to do certain tasks. I felt that my mind was full of stuff I was supposed to do, but I did not know how to organize my thoughts and feel at peace. GTD offered me a framework to capture my thoughts and process them efficiently, and experience peace of mind. The most important part of GTD for me is the Weekly Review. What is the weekly review The weekly review is a productivity practice that you perform each week to get clear on your tasks, goals and projects and what needs to be done.
